Monthly Community Meal Come along on the last Thursday of every month (7pm) to a community meal at the Round Chapel Old School Rooms on the corner of Powerscroft Road and Lower Clapton Road in Hackney (E5). It only costs a quid and everyone does something to make it happen - bring your favorite dish, help set up tables ahead of time, come early to cook, or stay late to clean up.
The meal is an opportunity for people in this neighbourhood to come together and eat a home cooked meal together. It's that simple. So, come along - drop in and eat with your neighbours, you might be surprised who you meet.... Click here to Listen to a Community Meal in Action! Building a people-friendly urban villageThe Round Chapel Community Projects began life in February 1997 with the re-opening of the Round Chapel Old School Rooms building. As well as making the refurbished Round Chapel Old School Rooms available to community organisations, the Clapton Park United Reformed Church wished to rebuild community within the immediate neighbourhood around those buildings. A community worker, Chris Lawrence, was employed by the denomination to serve the church and community for a ten year term. From these small beginnings the project has grown rapidly. The building now houses a lively nursery program and community groups hire the premises every day of the week for all sorts of important occasions and events.
In 1997 the tradition of a monthly Community Meal began - an attempt to reconnect people who live or work in the Lower Clapton neighbourhood. In July 2005 we celebrated our 100th consecutive month of eating an evening meal together.Normally 50 -100 people turn up for good home-cooked food, with £1 charge and no pre-booking: why don't you give it a try? Last Thursday of every month at 7pm. Urban TableEvery Sunday at 3pm the main Hall of Clapton Park URC is busy with volunteers making soup and sandwiches for anyone who needs some food and hospitality. Urban Table has been running for 4 years and attracts people from various walks of life. It is an opportunity for people who need a sympathetic ear to find some solidarity. Urban Table offers practical and emotional support as well as a healthy meal.
If you'd like to volunteer, contact the Church office on 020 8533 9676.

Round Chapel Families Project Early Start is an afternoon group for families with a child aged 2 years or older, who does not attend any pre-school group at the moment. It is a great way to catch-up with the new demands and challenges which will soon be placed on families when the child does eventually start at a school-based nursery. Drop Ins for parents/carers for 0-5's happen every Monday and Tuesday 10am-12midday upstairs at the Round Chapel Old School Rooms. They cost £1 for the first child (50p thereafter) and are a great way to make friends and let your child run/crawl free in a large room fully equipped with excellent toys. See below for any programme changes this term. An Art Club runs every Wednesday (term times) 10am-12 and costs £1.50 for first child and £1 thereafter. Get messy with your child and watch them have enormous fun and be creative. Free creche provided for younger ones.
