Words from the Christmas 05 service on the theme of Shalom
I did not want peace
for my body wept tears of justice
longing for the wrongs righted
and the meek made strong

I did not want peace
I chafed at the cosy contented harness
longing for the sparkling eye of freedom
and the adventure of the turbulent way

I did not want peace
having no need for the easy grace
of a gospel which made no demands
and smoothed my way to heaven

But then I saw the tiny infant
and the stamp of his petulant foot,
the eye sparkling with danger
and the long climb to the terrible cross

And knew at last the whisper of peace
in my soul troubled and stormy
- James Ashdown

There's a story that when Christ allowed himself to be crucified
The angels were amazed

They were amazed that God could humble himself so

They should not have been

Christmas was the day the angels should have been amazed

The word of God chose to come into the universe and live here
That is amazing

A dirty cave became the greatest of palaces
That is amazing

What are you looking for this Christmas?
A child in a manger?
A king?
Amazing things?

Forget all that
It doesn't matter now

Look for a universe God has chosen to live in
If you can find that you have found the greatest of treasures
